For the first time in 22 years, Zimbabwe will play a bilateral series at home against England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). Zimbabwe will visit England in May 2025, the governing council has announced, for the one-off Test that will be played from May 28 to May 31. The match’s location, notably, has not yet been chosen.
Speaking on the subject, ECB Chief Executive Officer Richard Gould said that England is happy to be able to host Zimbabwe after such a long time and is genuinely eager to assist the country flourish by playing Test matches and finding further possibilities to forge good relationships.
“Zimbabwe has a proud history in cricket and has produced players and coaches of the highest caliber who have improved the game all around the world. The news that Zimbabwe Cricket will play our England Men’s team in a test match is a step in the direction of our goal of improving our relationship with Zimbabwe Cricket.
The ECB reported Gould as stating, “This summer’s Ashes series demonstrated all that is great about Test cricket. While we must be mindful of the demands of the international cricket schedule, we also want to help expand Test cricket and find opportunities to play new nations where we can.

After the ECB acknowledged the new development, Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) conveyed their gratitude to ZC MD Givemore Makoni.
Givemore Makoni, their managing director, complimented the ECB for its dedication to rekindling the old-fashioned cricketing ties. He continued by noting that because Zimbabwe was improving, playing a top-tier country would be really beneficial for their development.
We are beyond excited to play bilateral cricket in England for the first time in more than 20 years. It is impossible to overstate the importance and scope of this trip, and I want to express my sincere gratitude to the ECB for agreeing to resume cricketing ties between our nations that extend back to the 1890s, when the sport was first played in Zimbabwe.
“The experience of playing a Test match against a top team like England is massive for the current generation of our players, coming at a time when our game as a whole is on the upward trajectory,” Makoni stated.
