After breaking his finger last week in Birmingham during the third Test against the West Indies, Zak Crawley is unable to participate in the current edition of The Hundred.
During the second innings against the West Indies, the explosive England opener was hurt while fielding at slips. After being taken to the hospital immediately, an X-ray showed that he had a fracture. Although the exact nature of the damage is unknown, The Telegraph reports that the medical staff will determine this week whether surgery is necessary.
Ben Stokes and Ben Duckett opened the batting as Crawley was unable to bat, and they helped England knock down an 87-run mark in just 7.2 overs while keeping all 10 wickets in tact. The Three Lions’ 3-0 rout of the Caribbean team was completed with this victory.
Zak Crawley will be missed by London Spirit throughout the whole competition as they begin their participation in The Hundred 2024 with two straight losses.
Keaton Jennings has been brought in to take his place. In the upcoming home series against Sri Lanka, the southpaw is also expected to take Crawley’s spot at the top of the order.
Nonetheless, England is also thinking about bringing in Dan Lawrence to join with Duckett at the top of the order. The right-handed hitter, who last played a Test match in March 2022, has been a part of the England team for a number of series but has not been able to add to his 11 appearances. Duckett was expecting the birth of his second child, and Lawrence was ready for the second Test at Trent Bridge.

Despite only managing to score 97 runs in four innings during the West Indies series, Crawley did not have a particularly memorable time. After smashing 76 off 89 balls in the opening Test at Lord’s, he got the campaign off to a great start. But he would be dismayed in what happened following that knock.
