Veteran Indian bowler Yuzvendra Chahal admitted that he frequently keeps quiet around former captain MS Dhoni. Yuzvendra Chahal enjoys his time both on and off the field. He is widely known for his amusing pranks, which have captured the interest of many fans.
But in a recent interview, the seasoned player discussed his friendship with famous cricketer MS Dhoni and explained why he prefers to be quiet around him.
“He (MS Dhoni) is the only one; unke saamne aate hi meri bolti bandh ho jaati hai (I can’t say anything in front of him).” No matter what kind of mood I’m in, I don’t talk much. I simply remain silent and only respond when Mahi Bhai asks a question. Otherwise, I just don’t say anything,” Chahal said on “The Ranveer Show.”
Notably, Yuzvendra Chahal has played in 121 and 91 wickets in 72 ODIs and 75 T20Is, respectively. In addition to being the top wicket-taker in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the 32-year-old has taken 187 wickets in 147 games.
Yuzvendra Chahal recalls a time when Dhoni supported him while he was having a “off day.”
Yuzvendra Chahal also remembered a strange occurrence in a T20 game against South Africa where he was pounded for 64 runs in his four overs. Chahal emphasized that Dhoni had his back despite having a “off day” on the field and urged the latter to stand up and continue forward despite the setback.
We were competing in a T20 match in Centurion versus South Africa. I was first struck for 64 runs in four overs. He asked me if I would bowl around the wicket since (Heinrich) Klaasen was hitting me hard. After I nodded, Klaasen smacked me with a six, according to Chahal.
Aaj tere din nahi hai, koi baat nahi (Today is not your day, it’s okay) is what Mahi bhai said to me as I was heading back. He advised me, though, to attempt to avoid conceding a boundary on the five balls I still have because doing so will benefit the team. From that experience, I learned that you can still help the team even if you’re having a bad day,” he continued.
