Ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 playoffs, legendary former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh was spotted in Chandigarh with Shubman Gill, the captain of the Gujarat Titans (GT). This has sparked rumours about whether the World Cup-winning cricket player has taken on a coaching job with the Gujarat-based team for the tournament’s final stretch.
The 2022 winners tweeted, “Ki haal chaal, #TitansFAM?” as the caption for a photo they shared of Yuvraj Singh and Shubman strolling together. At the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, the Titans, who have been guaranteed a postseason berth, will either play in Qualifier 1 or the Eliminator. Currently ranked second in the standings, they could drop to third if Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) defeats the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the last round-robin match of the competition.
Interestingly, prior to the season, there were rumours that Yuvraj Singh was a candidate to take Ashish Nehra’s place as Titans’ new head coach.
Both Nehra and Shubman have a strong bond with the former. He was crucial in helping Shubman improve his batting technique, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic.
After last year’s disaster, Gujarat ultimately stuck with Nehra, and the squad has performed admirably in the IPL 2025 under his leadership. In their 14 games this season, the Titans have won nine of them. They will, however, be entering the playoffs fresh off of two straight losses to the Chennai Super Kings and LSG.
The players may benefit much if Yuvraj, a 43-year-old who knows how to win titles, joins GT’s coaching staff, even if it’s only for a brief time. In addition to two IPL championships, he has won the T20 World Cup and the ODI World Cup.
