Former Indian cricket players Robin Uthappa and Yuvraj Singh are in deep water after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) called them to testify on the purportedly unlawful betting software 1xBet.
On Monday, September 22, Uthappa must appear before ED investigators at the agency’s Delhi headquarters. In the meantime, Yuvraj must show up for interrogation the next day at the previously indicated location.
According to an agency source, Yuvraj Singh was called on September 23 while Uthappa was requested to appear before ED investigators at the agency’s Delhi headquarters on September 22.
Days after the ED recorded the statements of retired Indian cricket players Shikhar Dhawan and Suresh Raina in the case, the summons was sent out.
Officials claim that the 1xBet case entails alleged violations of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), with the investigation concentrating on financial activities connected to the Indian ban on the betting platform.
One source stated, “Investigators think that financial trails and promotional activities connected to celebrities endorsing the brand could be crucial in establishing the app’s money flow.”
Both Yuvraj Singh and Uthappa, who were instrumental in India’s victory in the first T20 World Cup in 2007, have made appearances in the betting app’s promotional films. According to the PMLA, Yuvraj and Uthappa will need to record their remarks.
In October 2000, Yuvraj Singh played his first international match against Kenya.
He participated in 304 ODIs, 40 Test matches, and 58 T20Is. When India won the ODI World Cup in 2011, the renowned all-rounder was named Player of the Tournament. In all three formats, he finished with 11,778 runs and 148 wickets. At the moment, Yuvraj likes to spend time with his pals playing golf.
In contrast, Uthappa scored 934 and 249 runs in 46 ODIs and 13 T20Is, respectively. Despite his disappointing international career, Uthappa established himself as a dependable hitter in the Indian Premier League (IPL), particularly when playing for the Kolkata Knight Riders. Presently, the 39-year-old takes pleasure in his role as an expert, making appearances on a number of pre- and post-match broadcasts.
