The illustrious Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh recently expressed his displeasure at spinner Yuzvendra Chahal’s exclusion from India’s 15-person roster for the next ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023. The event is scheduled to begin on October 5, and Yuvraj’s observations have sparked a heated discussion among cricket fans.
He emphasized how important Yuzvendra Chahal‘s ability to bowl leg spin was in the limited-overs format. Chahal, an experienced player, has taken 141 wickets for the Indian squad in just 72 One Day Internationals (ODIs). According to him, his exclusion from the World Cup roster might have been a tactical error.
The fear of the southpaw stems from the idea that Team India’s leg spinner may have changed the outcome of a match, especially on grounds with significant turn or ones that favor slower conditions. For the Indian team in recent years, the 33-year-old’s ability to confuse batsmen with his leg-spin variations has been a crucial weapon.
“Leaving Yuzvendra Chahal out could be a mistake or cause concern. Possibly even kept him on the squad. Someone who consistently takes wickets for you is a leg-spinner. Kuldeep is doing amazingly well. Chahal, however, might have proved hazardous on slow wickets and turning surfaces. You could have chosen Yuzvendra Chahal if Hardik had given you the option of a third seamer, Yuvraj said in an interview with The Week.
On Bumrah’s recovery and India’s journey leading up to the World Cup, Yuvraj Singh didn’t hold back.
On a more upbeat note, the 41-year-old hailed Jasprit Bumrah’s return to the Indian squad as a welcome development. Bumrah will help India’s speed batteries in the World Cup after being sidelined with a chronic back condition.
“Jasprit Bumrah’s return is welcome because that department was lacking something. Prior to the Asia Cup, I was concerned about some injuries. It is not a given that you will win the World Cup if you win the Asia Cup. But it demonstrates that India is in good shape,” ‘Yuvraj Singh’ continued.
