Champions Trophy 2025: Younis Khan to mentor Afghanistan

Younis Khan, a former cricket player for Pakistan, was just named Afghanistan’s new coach for the 2025 Champions Trophy. Notably, Younis Khan was the team’s batting coach in 2022. The news was confirmed by an ACB (Afghanistan Cricket Board) official.

Younis Khan, who is widely regarded as one of the best cricket players to have ever played for Pakistan, was a significant player in his own right.

He also rose to the top of the ICC rankings after scoring 10,099 runs in 118 Test matches.

“Younis Khan, a veteran top order player from Pakistan, has been named the ACB’s 2025 Champions Trophy mentor. “He (Younis) will join the team prior to the event commencing in Pakistan,” ACB spokesman Sayeed Naseem Sadat stated.

Afghanistan hopes to perform well in The Champions Trophy 2025.

In relation to cricket, Afghanistan is prepared to play in the 2025 Champions Trophy. The team’s campaign will begin when they play South Africa. On February 21, both teams will square off in Karachi’s National Stadium.

Afghanistan is hoping to start their Champions Trophy 2025 campaign with a strong performance. It is important to remember that Afghanistan will play England in the tournament’s second match, and the ECB has lately called for a boycott of Afghanistan cricket.

The Taliban’s legislation prohibiting women from participating in sports prompted a number of UK lawmakers to ask the ECB to boycott Afghanistan cricket.

Nevertheless, the ECB reportedly stuck to their position that they would respect whatever each country chooses to do and that they are unable to make a decision on their own. The way the Taliban government in Afghanistan treats women and girls is highly condemned by the European Central Bank.

According to the ICC constitution, every member country must be dedicated to the advancement of women’s cricket. Richard Gould, the chief executive of the ECB, responded, “The ECB has upheld its stance of not scheduling any bilateral cricket matches against Afghanistan in accordance with this commitment.”
