"Young boy to man" – KL Rahul praised for mature Test batting

During the recently finished Test series between England and India, former Indian cricketer Dinesh Karthik commended KL Rahul for stepping up as one of the older players for India. During the most recent five-match series, Rahul scored 532 runs in 10 innings.

Rahul has not been able to maximise his starts in previous series, but Karthik praised him for doing so this time around. The former wicketkeeper discussed Rahul’s technically superior batting abilities in comparison to both the opponents and his teammates.

“You must comprehend. The three mainstays of the series, Virat, Rohit Sharma, and R Ashwin, retired at the same time. There were two well-known figures entering the series: Jadeja and KL Rahul. Bumrah was obviously the best bowler, but these two were the most well-known and skilled batsmen. As it turns out, KL Rahul has often had terrific series starts but weak finishes. However, that young child has matured into a man in this series,” Karthik stated through Cricbuzz.

He shouldered responsibility, in my opinion. He supported his technique and was arguably the most technically sound player on both sides. In the face of pressure, he declared, “I will play long and stick to my game plan and back my defensive skills and I will get runs for India every game in the series.”

The cricketer-turned-commentator also said that when it comes to confronting the Duke’s ball, which most Indian batters are not used to playing to, the Karnataka batsman is the most crucial player for India, particularly at the top of the batting order.

He batted with no pressure, was excellent in his defence, and had a stunning cover drive, as you would expect from a man of his calibre. But more significantly, Karthik said, “The senior statesman is the man Indian cricket would truly need throughout this series when he faces that tough Dukes ball that is coming. He was magnificent.”

Rahul was a key member of the Indian team that won the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. In the ten innings he played, he scored a few fifties and as many tonnes.
