Cricket’s dominant force and hosts Both India’s team for the Champions Trophy 2025 and their squad for the England ODI series have been revealed. Interestingly, Varun Chakravarthy’s name was not on the list. India selected Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Ravindraja Jadeja, and a lone spinner, Kuldeep Yadav, as their all-rounders. According to the amended roster, Varun was added overnight because Jasprit Bumrah was unable to play in the ODI series.
The 33-year-old is only 18 T20Is old and has not participated in an ODI for India. He had a fantastic 2024, taking 17 wickets at an average of 12.41 after playing seven Twenty20 Internationals. Additionally, he earned Man of the Series in the just finished series against England, taking an incredible 14 wickets in five games. Following his participation in the ODI lineup, veteran Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra counselled the team to retain his services by excluding him from the starting lineup.
The fact that Varun Chakravarthy was a member of my first team makes this one significant as well.
Varun should be retained, in my opinion, since you won’t require as many finger spinners and the wrist spinners may have more influence. But the selectors hadn’t chosen him,” Chopra posted on his YouTube page.
“Now, Varun Chakaravarthy was chosen here out of the blue. Now you will have to play him here as you have chosen to use his present red-hot form, which I believe is the proper move. It is impossible to get him to warm the bench. To have tea, you don’t call someone from outside. It’s your turn to play now,” Chopra continued.
