Reactions on Twitter: Vizag witnesses Yashasvi Jaiswal easy double ton

Day two of the second Test match between England and India at Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy India began their first innings at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium with a clear goal in mind: a large total. As worries about India’s batting weakness on Day 1 persisted, Yashasvi Jaiswal edged closer to his first double century and displayed incredible fortitude. As the third-youngest Indian player to score more than 200 runs, he became the fourth-youngest player to achieve a double century.

With a brilliant 209 runs off 290 deliveries, adorned with 19 boundaries and 7 sixes, Yashasvi Jaiswal laid a daunting platform for the home team. Jaiswal’s performance was particularly noteworthy on Day 1, even with the disappointments of openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill, who failed to convert their starts, and Shreyas Iyer’s short assistance with 27 runs. Unexpectedly, Gill’s 34 runs were the second-highest in the Indian innings, after only Jaiswal’s outstanding performance. Ultimately, Jimmy Anderson—who has already bowled more than 39,000 deliveries in Test cricket—snapped Jaiswal.

On Day 2, England’s young spinner Shoaib Bashir made an impact by taking three vital wickets. James Anderson and Rehan Ahmed both chipped in with three wickets apiece, helping to restrict India to 396 runs. India had a very clear plan, which they failed to carry out: to form alliances around Jaiswal’s historic innings and turn good beginnings into significant scores. India was painfully short of a formidable total of 500 despite the favourable batting circumstances, thanks to Ravichandran Ashwin’s lack of support and the lower order’s incapacity to capitalize.

With their bowling performance as a boost, England will want to take advantage of the remaining sessions of the day. Day 2 was defined by the struggle between England’s bowling attack and Yashasvi Jaiswal’s tenacity. It needs to be seen if England can contain India to a concerning level or if Jaiswal’s double ton would catapult India to a commanding position. Given that the next session is crucial, both teams are prepared for a fierce match and keen to turn the tide in their favor. The outcome of this battle would determine the direction of the Test match in a big way.

‘X’ users’ reactions to Yashasvi Jaiswal’s double ton and India’s opening innings are as follows:

His off side strokeplay and lofted shots are a sight to behold. But what impresses me the most about this young man is his hunger for runs. A vital knock in the context of the series, very well played @ybj_19 👏🏽 #INDvENG pic.twitter.com/xy7mU4opqf
