Before the second Test of the current home Test series against South Africa, former Indian cricketer Saba Karim has identified a problem for Yashasvi Jaiswal.
Karim commended the left-handed batter for his aggressive style of play, but pointed out that he needs to choose his shots more wisely and adjust to changing circumstances more effectively.
Yashasvi Jaiswal first Test scores in Kolkata were 12 and 0.
“The strategy works well, but as you develop as a batter, you also need to choose your shots more carefully. I recognise that you are a daring opener who wants to keep an offensive mindset, but in order to play those strokes, you still need to choose the appropriate ball and surface. In an appearance on JioHotstar, Karim said, “I didn’t see that in Yashasvi Jaiswal’s effort in this Test match (at Eden Gardens).”
He counselled Jaiswal to use a fluid strategy in each innings rather than following a strict pattern. He drew attention to how Yashasvi Jaiswal restlessness overcame him in India’s second innings.
“What transpired in the first innings demonstrated that he was growing impatient, even if Marco Jansen gave him a particular delivery in the second. Since he believes that his template is to start fast and then build later, he wanted to get off to a fast start or play huge shots early in his innings. To make significant runs and form alliances, you may need to alter your scoring style. Yashasvi Jaiswal needs to do better in that area, in my opinion,” he continued.
India failed to chase down 124 and lost the first Test by a margin of 30 runs. With the series at stake, Jaiswal and the others will want to put on a stronger show in Guwahati. The game is expected to start on November 22.
Jaiswal recently had a fantastic home match against the West Indies, scoring 36, 175 and 8 runs in three innings. He also scored 67 and 156, respectively, in the Ranji Trophy match against Rajasthan. Jaiswal was present for the West Indies vs. South Africa First-Class match.
