India vs. England: Yashasvi Jaiswal ties the record for most sixes in a Test innings with the legendary player from Pakistan

On Day 4 of the third Test in Rajkot, Indian teenage batting phenom Yashasvi Jaiswal struck a stunning 214* (236), his second double hundred of the current series against England. The southpaw had already reached his 100 on Day 3, but he had to retire due to a pulled muscle during the celebration of the achievement. Shubman Gill was run out for 91 in the opening session, so the opening batsman picked up where he left off the day before and went back to the crease.

The 22-year-old tied the world record for the most sixes in a Test innings and broke other records on his way to his second double-hundred. During his knock, Jaiswal broke Pakistani cricket star Wasim Akram’s 28-year record by sending the ball over the ropes 12 times. Remarkably, in 1996, the captain of Pakistan at the time scored his highest Test total of 257* against Zimbabwe, while also hammering 12 maximums.

Jaiswal became just the third Indian player to record successive double hundreds in Test cricket after Vinod Kambli (1993) and Virat Kohli (2017). During his performance, he also struck 14 fours in addition to 12 sixes. Interestingly, Jaiswal had previously amassed 209 in the second Test match in Visakhapatnam’s opening innings.

India surpasses 550 with the help of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sarfaraz.

He engaged in a tremendous stand of 172* (158) with Sarfaraz Khan (68* off 72) on Day 4 of the current Test, which helped India push their lead above 550. Thanks to his consecutive double hundreds, he cemented his position as the series’ top run scorer with 545 runs from six innings at an average of 109 and an 81.1 strike rate, including two hundreds and one fiftie.

India, ahead of England by 556 runs, eventually declared their innings at 430/4. With Ollie Pope (3 off 14), Ben Duckett (4 off 15), and Zak Crawley (11 off 26) back in the pavilion, they even had a fantastic start with the ball in the fourth inning, putting England on 20/3 within the first three overs.
