On Day 2 of the fifth Test match between India and Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground, Yashasvi Jaiswal gave India a dazzling start to their second innings by hitting Mitchell Starc for four boundaries in the opening over.
India’s top run scorer in the current Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024–25, Jaiswal, put his faith in himself and took some calculated chances against the prolific pacer. But the decision paid off, as India immediately established their supremacy in the second innings.
The following delivery was short, and Jaiswal flung the kitchen sink at the wife outside off-stump after shouldering the arms of the first ball. For a boundary, the ball flew past the slip cordon. Jaiswal replied similarly to the next ball, standing tall and slashing it away behind square on the off-side to record back-to-back bouncaries. The southpaw hit another boundary with a late cut on the fourth delivery of the over, beating Nathan Lyon to his right at sweeper cover.
Jaiswal attempted to hit another boundary from the sixth ball, but his attempt was thwarted by the additional bounce. The 23-year-old made a purely arbitrary connection. The Mumbai hitter smashed a thunderous shot all along the carpet through extra cover for the fourth boundary in the over, saving the best for last.

KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal leave after giving India a fast start.
After a couple of stunning strokes that went for boundaries, Jaiswal’s partner KL Rahul was dismissed by Scott Boland with a peach of a delivery. The ball took a slight inside edge before returning to the stumps as the Karnataka batsmen attempted a drive. Jaiswal’s off-stump was being disturbed by Boland, who also had his number, coming from the vicinity of the wicket.
After Australia was bowled out for 181 by India in the second session, Jaiswal and Rahul contributed 42 runs off just 45 balls. In their second innings, India will try to score a lot and put the hosts under a lot of pressure.
