Yashasvi Jaiswal gets the most runs for an unknown player in a single IPL season, passing Shaun Marsh.

Yashasvi Jaiswal is having a great season in the current IPL 2023. While playing for the Rajasthan Royals, he has broken a number of records. The 21-year-old kept up his great play against the Punjab Kings on May 19 at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala. He hit a brilliant 50 in 36 balls.

During his turn, the first batter added another feather to his cap by scoring the most runs by an unknown player in a single IPL season. Jaiswal is in the running for the IPL 2023 Orange Cap because he has scored the second most runs so far this season. The southpaw has 625 runs, with an average of 48.07 and a hit rate of 163.61. The batsman from Uttar Pradesh has five fifties and a hundred, with his best score being 124.

Shaun Marsh’s record of 616 runs in 11 innings stood for 15 years.  Jaiswal also set a record for the fastest fifty in IPL history. He reached the mark against KKR in the current season with just 13 balls.

Yashasvi Jaiswal broke it during the IPL in 2008, before Marsh made his start for Australia.

Back to the PBKS vs. RR game, both teams needed to win badly to stay in the race for the playoffs and also to improve their net run rate. After being told to bat first, Punjab got off to a bad start. After 6.3 overs, they were 50/4.

In the first innings, Punjab got to 187/5 thanks to the work of Sam Curran (49* off 31), Jitesh Sharma (44* off 28), and Shahrukh Khan (41* off 23). The best bowler for Rajasthan was Navdeep Saini, who took 40 runs off 80 balls in 4 overs.

Rajasthan still has a chance to make the playoffs after getting 14 points.

In response, Rajasthan lost Jos Buttler for a duck. Then, Devdutt Padikkal (51 runs in 30 balls) and Jaiswal (50 runs in 36 balls) added 73 runs to stabilize the game. After Padikkal was out in the tenth over, the captain, Sanju Samson, also went quickly, getting only 2 runs off 3 balls before he was out.

Shimron Hetmyer played a classy innings of 46 runs off 28 balls after he was out, putting RR on the verge of winning with nine runs needed from the last over. In the end, cameos from Riyan Parag (20 runs off 12 balls) and Dhruv Jurel (10* runs off 4 balls) helped RR reach the goal in 19.4 overs and stay in the competition.
