Having played six matches in the current era, New Zealand holds a 50% points percentage and is now ranked third in the standings of the ICC World Test Championship. The champions of the first-ever Championship have six Test matches scheduled in the upcoming months, all of which will take place away from home against Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, and India.
Prior to the one and only Test match between India and Afghanistan scheduled for Greater Noida, former captain of the Test team Kane Williamson expressed the opinion that the World Test Championship increased the importance of red-ball cricket matches because it was a competitive format with many more statistics to consider.
“Isn’t it similar to tournament sport in certain ways? Kane Williamson said.
“Even though the [World] Test Championship is happening over a longer period of time, the value of games is high,” as cited by the International Cricket Council.
He also mentioned how WTC has been able to stage exciting games since its founding five years ago, and he acknowledged that everyone in the group was excited about the games that were coming up.
“The Test Championship and its surrounding backdrop are extremely important, and they have produced many highly thrilling matches in Test cricket. Thus, it goes without saying that scheduling six Test matches in a row is an important and exciting aspect of the Test Championship schedule, said Williamson.

The Black Caps are expected to compete well in circumstances where they have not had the best of memories thanks to the addition of former India batting coach Vikram Rathour and former Sri Lankan wizard Rangana Herath to their backend staff as short-term batting coach and spin-bowling coach, respectively.
