The Women’s Premier League (WPL 2025) final between the Delhi Capitals Women (DC-W) and Mumbai Indians Women (MI-W) is scheduled for Saturday, March 15, at Mumbai’s Brabourne Stadium.
Meg Lanning, the captain of Delhi, chose to field first after winning the toss. She continued by announcing that seamer Titas Sadhu would be replaced by left-arm spinner Shree Charani for the crucial match.
The Capitals’ decision to bench the Chinsura-pacer, who has more WPL playing experience, is a daring one.
This season, Charani has only participated in one game. Earlier this month, it took place at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium versus the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. In her four overs, the 20-year-old gave up 28 runs while taking two wickets. In that clash, she dispatched a well-set Raghvi Bist and the dangerous Richa Ghosh.
Lanning did not specify why Sadhu was left out, but analysts believe the Capitals want to strengthen their spin-bowling unit for the high-stakes match.
At the toss, what were the words of the two captains?
After taking a long hiatus, Lanning said her squad is feeling rejuvenated. In the title match, she hoped her squad could execute to the best of their abilities. Tonight, I’m going to go bowling. It has worked for us throughout the competition, and the conditions will not change. We’re eager for tonight after taking some time off to rejuvenate. We have an opportunity. We must do well, and hopefully it will be our best showing. We have one change: Shree replaces Sadhu,” Lanning remarked.
Harmanpreet stated that if she had won the toss, she would have bowled first. She recalled the Brabourne Stadium final in the first season, where Mumbai defeated Delhi to win the championship.
“Even we wanted to go bowling. However, I believe everything is beneficial to us. The team that bats first has won the last four games, according to the statistics. For us, maintaining equilibrium and being present has been effective. They have performed admirably in this event of cricket. We’ve had a good week so far. The first season left us with many wonderful recollections. We wish to enjoy our cricket match on this lovely and new day. We have the same team,” Harmanpreet said.
