On Monday, March 10, Hayley Matthews helped the Mumbai Indians Women defeat the Gujarat Giants Women by nine runs in Match 19 of the Women’s Premier League 2025. Gujarat needed 13 to win, and the batting all-rounder was given the ball for her final over in the game’s final over.
In the end, Hayley Matthews gave up just three runs.
The game was set up for the hosts with her first two dismissals. Simran Shaikh made a grave error with his opening over delivery. By failing to get her hands on the ball, the West Indian fluffed the skier. Her keen mental awareness, however, caused a run-out at the non-striker’s end. Shaikh’s stumps were rattled by a sparkling back-of-a-length ball on the very next delivery.

With the game’s last delivery, Hayley Matthews was dismissed for the third time. In a close WPL 2025 match, Mumbai won by nine runs when Yastika Bhatia stumped Priya Mishra. Mumbai’s winning streak versus Gujarat in the WPL was maintained thanks to the victory. Matthews had scored 27 off 22 deliveries earlier in the contest.
Fulmali’s exceptional performance goes unappreciated
At 70/5 in the eleventh over, Gujarat was in serious trouble. Phoebe Litchfield was replaced by Bharti Fulmali, who emerged to the centre. Her incredible 61-run knock off 25 balls was crucial to sustaining the match. Batting at No. 7 or lower, she became just the second batter in WPL history to reach a half-century.
Gujarat had a disappointing start to their run chase, needing to chase 180 to win. Harleen Deol scored 24 of the 41 runs that their top four batters put on the scoreboard. Ashleigh Gardner, captain, was dismissed for a two-ball duck after giving up just 27 runs in her four-over period.
