WPL 2025 to be played across four venues from February 7

February 7th is the start date for the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025. Delhi Capital Women (DC-W), Gujarat Giants (GG-W), Mumbai Indians Women (MI-W), Royal Challengers Bengaluru Women (RCB-W), and UP Warriorz (UPW) are the five teams who will compete for the coveted trophy in this third edition of the franchise league.

The WPL received a tremendous reaction for its first two seasons, and the public is eager to see what the next season will bring. In 2023, Mumbai and Navi Mumbai hosted the event, and Bengaluru and New Delhi hosted the second season. The 2018 season will be played at four different locations, according to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

On Sunday, January 12, Rajeev Shukla, the board’s vice president, confirmed the news about the third iteration of the most competitive women’s T20 competition.

There will be four locations for the performance. Brabourne Stadium will host the Mumbai leg, according to Sportstar’s report of Shukla.

The tournament’s four locations this year are the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana cricket stadium in Lucknow, the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai, the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, and the recently constructed Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara.

Notably, the newest cricket ground in Vadodara has gained notoriety recently for hosting the India Women’s One-Day International series against the West Indies. At the same venue, the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024–25 knockout stages are being held.

The latter two seasons of the show WPL

The Mumbai team defeated the Delhi-based team to win the 2023 WPL’s first season. Under Harmanpreet Kaur’s leadership, the team defeated Delhi by seven wickets to win the multi-team competition for the first time. Hayley Matthews of the victorious team was the Purple Cap holder for the inaugural event, while Meg Lanning, the captain of the runners-up, secured the Orange Cap.

In the tournament’s subsequent season, RCB Women shocked everyone by making a strong return after a poor 2023 campaign. The Bengaluru-based squad, led by their star cricketer Smriti Mandhana, won the final and took home the trophy. Lanning & Co. was losing again. Shreyanka Patil, an off-spinner, grabbed the most wickets, while Ellyse Perry was awarded the Orange Cap. It will now be RCB’s turn to defend their championship.
