On Tuesday, February 25, the Delhi Capitals produced a spectacular comeback in the WPL 2025 after losing the opening game of the Bengaluru leg to the Gujarat Giants by a margin of six wickets.
Jess Jonassen’s explosive 61* off 32 and opener Shafali Verma’s 27-ball 44 helped the Delhi Capitals chase down a target of 128 in only 15.1 overs.
The bowling unit of the Delhi Capitals earlier put on a fantastic display, holding the opposition to 127/9 in 20 overs. Titas Sadhu and Jonassen each took one wicket, while Annabel Sutherland, Marizanne Kapp, and Shikha Pandey each took two.
“The team checked all the boxes and executed the plans well right from the very beginning,” remarked Jonassen, who was selected Player of the Match, in his reflection on the victory. Marizanne Kapp and Shikha (Pandey) set the tone for us by taking four wickets during the powerplay. In addition, we made several incredible catches and fielded fairly well.
In order to add a little firepower and some intent during the power play, our coach Jonathan Batty informed me earlier in the day that the team management was considering moving me up the order if a wicket was removed early. “I’m glad I could help the team win,” she remarked.
“It can work both ways,” Jess Jonassen responded when questioned about playing back-to-back games in a short period of time.

You don’t have enough time to sit and think about your errors or the things that didn’t go as planned when you have a short turnaround. You simply need to keep your eyes on the future,” she added.
With six points and three victories from five games, the Delhi Capitals have risen to the top of the standings. Their sixth game is scheduled for Friday at M Chinnaswamy Stadium against the Mumbai Indians.
