Why, despite India U-19 call-up, Would Samit Dravid not play in the World Cup?

Newly named in the 15-man India U-19 squads for the upcoming one-day and four-day series against Australia U-19 in September and October is the 18-year-old son of former Indian cricketer Rahul Dravid, an emerging star on the local circuit in India.

Even yet, the bright young player will not be able to represent India at the highest level in a global competition for U-19s, despite this fantastic breakthrough arriving at just the perfect time. He exceeded the 19-year-old age limit by the time of the 16th Men’s U-19 World Cup in 2026, which is the reason for this.

When his father was not allowed to play in the tournament’s second edition in 1998, even though he was picked for the U-19 series against the Kiwis in 1992, he suffered a similar fate.

Samit Dravid, who became well-known for his performances with Karnataka in the Cooch Behar Trophy.

where he scored 362 runs and claimed 16 wickets, is presently playing for the Mysore Warriors in the Maharaja T20 Trophy. Though it was a losing effort, he recorded a stroke-filled 33 against the Gulbarga Mystics, which is his greatest score thus far in the competition. It’s interesting that he hasn’t yet made use of his quick bowling skills.

Back to the Australia U-19 games, where Samit is expected to be a key player all-around, two series will be played, one in Puducherry (the site of the three-match ODI series) and the other in Chennai (the site of the two multi-day series).

Mohammad Amaan of Uttar Pradesh will lead the team in the 50-over series, while Madhya Pradesh’s Soham Patwardhan will captain the team throughout the four-day match.
