Tuesday, the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the ODI World Cup 2023 schedule. On October 5 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, the defending champions England and New Zealand will square off in the tournament opener.
This will be the first 50-over World Cup to be contested in India exclusively. Indian cricket-obsessed supporters are filled with optimism that their team will be able to break their seemingly unbreakable jinx in ICC knockouts. Teams such as Australia and England, which receive substantial support whenever they tour India, are also among the favourites to win the 10-team tournament.
Hotels in Ahmedabad have been doing exceptionally well recently. The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, the largest cricket stadium in the globe, will host some of the tournament’s most important matches. After hosting England and New Zealand in the tournament’s opening match, on October 15, archrivals India and Pakistan will face off in Ahmedabad. On November 4, Ashes rivals Australia and England will square off at the Narendra Modi Stadium in yet another high-profile matchup. The tournament’s finals will also be contested at this venue. Therefore, it is not an enormous surprise that Ahmedabad’s hotels are hitting the ball out of the park.

There are still 99 days until the first ball of the tournament is delivered, but industry sources claim that rooms in the lowest category of five-star hotels are already going for Rs 50,000 per night. These accommodations would normally cost between Rs 6,500 and Rs 10,500.
“There is also considerable interest in the October 15 match between India and Pakistan.” TOI quoted Keenan McKenzie, general manager of ITC Narmada, as saying that hotel rooms in the city are anticipated to be sold out on the majority of match days during the October 13-16 period.
Not only Indian supporters, but also international cricket groups, fans, and sponsors are in contact with hotel management in the hopes of reserving rooms for the showcase event. The majority of five-star hotels in the city have between 60 and 90% of their accommodations booked on match days.
“Approximately 80% of [rooms] are sold for match days. English travel agencies and significant corporations have already made reservations for the opening ceremony and the first match between England and New Zealand, according to Punit Baijal, general manager of the Hyatt Regency Ahmedabad.
According to industry sources, rooms in the basic category are being reserved for approximately Rs 52,000, while rooms in the premium category cost Rs 1 lakh or more.
“On October 14-16, two of our properties are already sold out. At least 40-60% of our inventory is booked for the majority of match dates, and we anticipate a few more sold-out days,” said Atul Buddhraja, vice-president (operations) of the Sankalp Group, which manages Taj Group properties.
