The 15-member Proteas Women’s team has been selected by Cricket South Africa (CSA) for the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025, which will be held in India and Sri Lanka from September 30 to November 2. With veteran players Chloé Tryon, Marizanne Kapp, Ayabonga Khaka, and Suné Luus, who are expected to contribute both leadership and experience, the team will be headed by Laura Wolvaardt.
Tazmin Brits’ addition has strengthened the batting group, and Nodumiso Shangase, Anneke Bosch, Annerie Dercksen, and Nadine de Klerk provide strong coverage in the all-rounder area. After playing at the U19 level in 2023 and 2025, 17-year-old Karabo Meso is making her first senior World Cup appearance, and Sinalo Jafta has been kept behind the stumps.
The pace assault will be varied by seamers Masabata Klaas and Tumi Sekhukhune, while left-arm spinner Nonkululeko Mlaba will lead the spin options. Miané Smit, a young all-round player, was selected as the travelling reserve and played the same role at the 2023 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.
After playing England on October 3, the Proteas women will play New Zealand, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan. On October 25, at the Holkar Stadium in Indore, the group stage will come to an end with a matchup against the formidable Australian team.
The Proteas Women will go to Pakistan for a three-match ODI series on September 16, 19, and 22 in Lahore in advance of the international event. Mandla Mashimbyi, the head coach, stated that the team has the best balance conceivable and that there is hope for what the team may accomplish in India.
It has been quite the journey. Working for this moment has been my focus ever since I joined this team, even before the squad went through the qualification phase. We can know that we have done our best when we reflect on the amount of preparation we have done. According to CSA, Mashimbyi stated, “We are prepared to send a squad to the World Cup that will make South Africa proud.”
“While I am pleased for everyone of the players and management who will board the aircraft to India, I am even more eager to watch what they can do as a team. We think we have a group of players who are capable of performing well on the international front. Now, it’s crucial about bringing that belief and the nation’s support with us at every turn,” she continued.
“The team was selected through a consistent selection process, with recent performances playing a central role,” said Clinton du Preez, CSA Convenor of Selectors. Every player considers playing in a World Cup to be a remarkable accomplishment, he said.
“The squad’s composition is supported by the consistent selection procedure that was followed during the most recent cycle of the ICC Women’s Championship, while accounting for the subcontinental conditions and the various group characteristics necessary for a successful tournament of this kind,” du Preez stated.
“I want to extend my sincere congratulations to every player who was chosen for this esteemed competition. They have the chance to represent South Africa in a 50-over World Cup, an honour a player only gets a few times in their career, thanks to their three years of dedication and sacrifice,” he continued.
