The ICC Women’s WC 2025’s highly anticipated India Women vs. Pakistan Women match is scheduled for October 5 at Colombo’s R. Premadasa Stadium. The lingering handshake dispute between the two countries has dominated the build-up to the match, even though the cricket rivalry is still the main focus.
The Indian women’s team has been told by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) not to shake hands with their Pakistani counterparts on Sunday, according to Sportstar. This order comes after three instances during the Asia Cup 2025 where the Indian men’s team refused to shake hands with Pakistani players after games due to rising political tensions.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has made it clear that tournament rules do not need handshakes. If teams or players break the Spirit of the Game, however, there may be consequences.
Cricket has been affected by the tense diplomatic ties between India and Pakistan as a result of the Pahalgam terror assault and the ensuing Operation Sindoor. Notably, the Indian squad even declined to take the trophy from Mohsin Naqvi, the president of the ACC and the interior minister of Pakistan, at the Asia Cup final.
Both nations have only played each other at neutral locations in ICC and ACC competitions since the Champions Trophy earlier this year.
As a result of this agreement, Pakistan will host all of its Women’s WC matches in Colombo until 2027.
In the opening match of the tournament, India Women defeated the hosts, Sri Lanka Women, by 59 runs, establishing a solid start to their campaign. Their batting lineup appeared formidable, and the bowlers carried out their strategies with effectiveness. On October 2, Pakistani women will launch their campaign against Bangladeshi women.
Cricket action is expected to be fierce as both teams get ready for their match on Sunday, but the storyline is still dominated by the emotions that exist off the pitch.
