He was granted a one-year term extension in January 2024, but his resignation cleared the path for him to pursue the highly sought-after post of ICC Chairman. Shah is running for the chairmanship, and on August 7 the nomination papers will be submitted.
In the middle of 2024, Jay Shah, the Secretary of the BCCI, resigned from his position as President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC).
The next candidate for the BCCI Secretary post is the subject of much speculation, even though the ICC’s top job profile election is set for December 1. Arun Dhumal, Ashish Shelar, and Rajeev Shukla are a few of the contenders whose names are making the rounds. Though Shah, 35, has 96 hours to make a decision before the BCCI secretariat’s annual report is due, it is thought that 15 of the 16 ICC members support him in his bid to become chairman.
In addition to serving as a Congress party member of parliament in the Rajya Sabha, Shukla currently serves as the vice-president of the BCCI. In the Indian Premier League, he has also served as chairman twice. Currently serving as vice president, he may be considered as a possible stand-in.
Shelar is an important member of the Mumbai Cricket Association in addition to serving as BCCI’s Treasurer. In addition, he preside over the Mumbai branch of the BJP. It is difficult for the BCCI to consider Shelar as a possible secretary given his engagement in other prominent positions, since the post requires complete dedication.

Regarding Dhumal, he has served as BCCI treasurer and is currently the IPL chairman. With his continued ties to the lucrative league, Dhumal has the potential to advance above the rankings based on the Indian board’s past.
