Former Windies fast bowler compares Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Mohammed Shami.

In the 62nd match of the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL), Bhuvneshwar Kumar took five wickets against Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium. However, his outstanding bowling performance was in futile as GT won the match by a comfortable margin of 34 runs.

On the strength of Shubman Gill’s first IPL century and Mohammed Shami’s four-wicket haul, Gujarat thrashed the opposition at the prestigious stadium. Shami, who led GT’s bowling unit after Gill’s heroics with the bat, wrecked havoc on SRH’s batters with his tenacious demeanor.

Anmolpreet Singh, Aiden Markram, and Rahul Tripathi were dismissed by the veteran during the powerplay overs, shattering Sunrisers’ confidence.

Former West Indies fast bowler Ian Bishop, impressed by Mohammed Shami’s disciplined bowling in the game, compared Bhuvneshwar Kumar spell to that of Mohammed Shami.

Shami’s wickets had a significant impact on the game, while Bhuvneshwar’s wickets occurred near the end of GT’s batting innings, according to a former West Indies legend who analyzed the spells of both India greats.

“He has 15 powerplay dismissals. According to Bishop on ESPNcricinfo, it contrasts the value of early wickets and late wickets. And you look at Bhuvi Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and no fault of Bhuvi’s, Bhuvi was excellent with 4 wickets in the back end, but Shami bowls a test length, a test line and length, very well, which is what (Mohammed) Siraj, when he’s been at his best this season, has been able to bowl.”

Bishop praised Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) Mohammed Siraj, who has been in excellent form thus far in the current IPL season, while discussing the performances of both bowlers.

“Tight on the off-stump, with a little bit of movement away from that brilliant seam position, and moving at a decent speed. It appears to be more active off the wicket than the majority of males. So tremendous credit, he broke the back of that run chase early on, and he’s been an outstanding bowler over the last three or four seasons,” Bishop said.
