Williamson to Miss T20Is, Likely Back for ODIs

The next Twenty20 International series between New Zealand and England will not feature Kane Williamson. But there’s a chance he’ll return in time for the One-Day Internationals leg. When Williamson last played for New Zealand, the team fell to eventual champions India in the Champions Trophy final in March 2025.

As part of an agreement with Middlesex, the veteran batsman had previously ruled himself out of the T20I series against Australia and the tour of Zimbabwe in order to play county cricket and the Men’s Hundred.

At the moment, Williamson is under a casual contract with New Zealand Cricket.

Rob Walter, the head coach of New Zealand, stated that it was agreed upon that Williamson needed more time to recuperate because he had been battling a “minor medical issue” the previous month. Additionally, Walter gave important information on two players who are recuperating from injuries: Mitchell Santner, the white-ball captain, and Rachin Ravindra, the gifted southpaw.

“We hope that these two weeks will guarantee that he is prepared for the ODIs against England and the upcoming West Indies tour. He is undoubtedly a world-class player.” It’s wonderful to see Mitch [Santner] again. He is not only our boss but also one of the world’s top white-ball spinners, and his abilities and background will be a great asset. Rachin, who was unfortunate to miss Australia, is also welcome back and I know he is very looking forward to this series,” Walter said, as reported by ESPNcricinfo.

The 20-over team against England also included James Neesham, who was initially selected to replace Rachin for the Australia series. With 4/26 against the Mitchell Marsh-led team in the final Twenty20 International, he had made an impression.
