‘Having that leg gully in place was meant to bring him into play’- William O’Rourke on planning Virat Kohli’s dismissal

"I don’t think that was exactly the delivery I intended, but it worked and I got Kohli's wicket, so I’m happy about it," he said.

'Having that leg gully in place was meant to bring him into play'- William O'Rourke on planning Virat Kohli's dismissal

After Day 1 of the current Test match was canceled owing to heavy rain, India and New Zealand faced battle at Chinnaswamy on Day 2. Even though Rohit Sharma called at the toss, India ended up having a terrible day, finishing at a humiliating low of 46.

William O’Rourke of New Zealand and veteran Virat Kohli were among the five Indian batters who produced ducks after being dismissed. It is important to remember that, despite only scoring 20 runs on a dismal day, Rishabh Pant was India’s top scorer.

Cricket player William O’Rourke of New Zealand discussed his thoughts on eliminating Virat Kohli on Day 2 of the first Test match between India and New Zealand exclusively on JioCinema. “I believe that having that leg gully in place was intended to draw him into play, just with my angle back in. For us, it was clearly an offensive option. The wicket was a blessing for us. I’m glad I got his wicket even though I don’t think that was the exact delivery I wanted to make.”

Regarding the weather: “Very comparable to what’s back home.” We probably didn’t anticipate a lot of help in the morning. If we won the toss, we were most likely going to bat as well. Seeing the ball nibbling around and being able to run in and do what I wanted was pleasant.

Regarding New Zealand’s fielding performance: “I believe we played really well today. We take pride in having a few diving opportunities, in my opinion. In the past few Tests, we have most likely fallen short of our desired level of performance. It was truly unique to come out here and perform like that.

On playing in the Indian subcontinent: “It’s my first time playing in the subcontinent so it’s obviously a little bit different from back home, but playing those first two Tests in Sri Lanka really helped prepare me to come out here and just focus on doing my own thing.”
