I had a minor niggle, but I’m back to bowling and will presumably complete the task: Shardul Thakur

Shardul Thakur

Shardul Thakur was recently named to India’s 15-man squad that will face Australia in the 2023 World Test Championship final. The Indian all-rounder has been a wicket-taker whenever he has been given the ball, and he has delivered the majority of the time. However, he has not contributed much with the ball for his franchise, the Kolkata Knight Riders, in the ongoing IPL 2023.

As fans were anxious to know why he had not been bowling, the 31-year-old all-rounder broke the silence by stating that he had a minor injury that has since healed. He reported that he has also regained his bowling form and will bowl if the team requires it. He also stated that the KKR squad is replete with all-rounders, with even captain Nitish Rana bowling a few overs recently.

“Andrew Russell and Sunil Nairne are all-around players for our team… We have a total of eight bowling options, including Nitish (Rana), who bowls an over or two currently. I had a minor injury, so I missed a few games. When I returned, I did not bowl because I was not bowling fit. MyKhel quoted Thakur as saying, “However, I’m now back to bowling, and I’m hoping that whenever I get the ball, I’ll do the job.”

In contemporary cricket, staying physically healthy is a challenge. Shardul Thakur

Considering the conditions in which Team India will be competing and Thakur’s past performance in overseas conditions, it is probable that the star Indian all-rounder will be included in the starting lineup. In addition, he explained that being an all-rounder in modern cricket is physically taxing and therefore difficult.

“It is challenging and demanding. Physically, it is difficult because when you go to practice, you must literally do everything—fielding exercise, bowling, and batting. In addition, you need to do some running to maintain your fitness. Shardul concluded, “It’s not easy, but that’s the challenge of modern cricket: you have to manage your body to stay fit and keep going.”
