As captain, Mohammad Rizwan’s performance has been poor. In a recent One-Day International (ODI) series, New Zealand blanked Pakistan. Reports of disagreements between Rizwan and Aaqib Javed, the interim head coach, then emerged.
Reports state that during the New Zealand ODIs, Mohammad Rizwan and Javed disagreed on team selections.
Javed ultimately chose to enter with four bowlers, with part-timers Salman Aghna and Irfan Khan filling in for the fifth, despite Rizwan’s desire for five specialist bowlers for the first two ODIs.
The decision ultimately backfired, as the pair gave up 134 runs at a rate of more than 10 runs per over in 13 overs.
After being dropped from the T20 International (T20I) series against New Zealand, Rizwan and senior batsman Babar Azam are anticipated to ask the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for clarification on their duties.
According to Gulf News, a source close to the captain said that Rizwan is scheduled to meet with the PCB chairman as soon as he has a chance to ask questions over his dismissal from the T20I team.
Rizwan won’t hesitate to resign as captain of Pakistan if he doesn’t get reassuring responses. According to the source, “Rizwan will look for more authority when choosing the playing eleven.”
“And there is a genuine chance that he may resign from his position as ODI captain if he is not granted that.”
Lately, Pakistani cricket has not been playing at its best. They lost badly in the Champions Trophy group stages and finished the tournament without a victory prior to their disaster in New Zealand, which featured a 4-1 T20I loss and a 3-0 ODI thumping.
