In 2025, MS Dhoni won’t have to take a significant financial hit to play for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the forthcoming Indian Premier League (IPL). The IPL Governing Council’s decision to reinstate the Uncapped Player rule has made this feasible. According to this rule, any Indian player who hasn’t participated in international cricket in the five years before to the following season’s year can be designated as an uncapped player. Given that his most recent international appearance was in July 2019, Dhoni is a good fit.
Mohammad Kaif, Dhoni’s former teammate for India, expressed his delight over seeing the illustrious former captain of India play again. According to Kaif, changes to the regulations will persist as long as Dhoni desires to participate in the IPL.
“You’ll get another opportunity to witness MS Dhoni. He is in good shape, hitting for a 200 strike rate, and is keeping well, so I think the regulations will be changed until he wants to play. He will participate in the IPL if that is his desire. He has been a leader for CSK and is such a huge player and match-winner, Kaif stated on Star Sports.

The former cricket player turned pundit stated that it was the right move to bring back a long-standing regulation since it permits a legendary player like Mahendra Singh Dhoni to continue playing.
“I think the changes made to the rule are appropriate. I think we should modify the rule and allow him play if he’s healthy and performing well. “Everyone knows that Dhoni sahab is exempt from the rule, and it makes sense to do so for a player of his calibre,” the former Indian batter continued.
The wicketkeeper-batter was retained by CSK for INR 12 crore before to the previous big auction that preceded the 2022 Indian Premier League. The Men in Yellow would be able to keep Dhoni for just INR 4 crore thanks to the new regulation.
