After South Africa defeated Zimbabwe in the second and final Test of the series, standby captain Wiaan Mulder said it was a dream come true to be in charge of the team. The game was played at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo, where the visiting team defeated the home team by an innings and 236 runs.
Additionally, he shown his willingness to give his all for the country in any role or capacity going forward, whenever the core players and leaders return to the team. Mulder was happy that other players had also helped the foreigners win in a big way.
“Very unique, something I had a childhood fantasy about.” As a cricket player, one of the greatest honours is being named captain. Extremely pleased. I felt great and decided to take a chance and give up a few more runs after being dissatisfied by how I ended up in the first Test. I went into this game with my best effort, let the result go, and concentrated on what I could do right then.
“It all came together,” Wiaan Mulder said during the presentation after the game.
I simply want to play, regardless of the role; the coach decides. I’ll give it a shot. My role may alter when we move to the subcontinent, but I just want to do my job. A lot of men stepped up, including Codi (Yusuf) and Subrayen (Prenelan), and each one made a unique contribution, which is encouraging for South African cricket, he continued.
There is still plenty to accomplish after the second test didn’t go as planned: Ervine.
In the end, Zimbabwe’s skipper Craig Ervine thought that his team’s case was hampered by a combination of bad luck in terms of players dropping out and several players missing out on opportunities and starts. He also anticipated that a seasoned individual like Sean Williams would instill teachings in the children.
The second test didn’t go as planned, so there is still a lot of work to be done, but I felt that we learnt a lot from the first test and were able to correct our mistakes. Prince (Masvaure) became ill with the flu, and losing your best opener in Brian Bennett is difficult for the team. Sadly, Myers didn’t take his chance with Dion.
“Sean Williams scored a lot in the first Test, and if you have to perform well, you need big hundreds. Guys—including myself—got a chance and got in.” His ability to move the game and score runs without restriction against the spinners makes him a valuable member of the batting lineup. He still has a few years left in his legs. “I hope the kids need to learn from him,” the captain of the Chevrons remarked.
He concluded by urging his squad to take note of Wiaan Mulder batting style and the areas where the bowling unit of the World Test Championship winners excelled so they could win easily in the end. He gave an update on Brian Bennett’s injury condition as well, stating that he will soon be cleared to play again.
There are numerous lessons to be learnt from the manner the bowlers from South Africa grouped. We may infer a good deal from Wiaan Mulder because his batting pace didn’t vary particularly. We need to show it off in the middle. We’ve said enough; now is the time to act. Ervine said, “(Brian) Bennett should be ready to go shortly.”
Together with New Zealand, the two countries will now participate in the Zimbabwe Twenty20 Tri-Series. Monday, July 14 is when the competition is scheduled to start. The Harare Sports Club is the venue for all of the games.
