“There are a few reasons why Mohammed Siraj needs to take a break,” said Brian Lara on the out-of-form RCB bowler.

"There are a few reasons why Mohammed Siraj needs to take a break," said Brian Lara on the out-of-form RCB bowler.

Legend of the West Indies Brian Lara says Mohammed Siraj need to take a few matches off following Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) seven-wicket loss to Mumbai Indians (MI) in the 2024 Indian Premier League. Since the beginning of the current IPL, Mohammed Siraj, one of India’s top pacers, has struggled with his form.

In the six games the 30-year-old has played for the RCB, he has taken just four wickets and given up runs at a pace of 10.41 per over. Notably, he took 19 wickets at an economy rate of 7.52 in 14 matches during the previous edition, making him one of the RCB’s most impressive bowlers.

Siraj has been a notable bowler for India and RCB because to his skill, but Brian Lara stressed that he needs a vacation.

“For two reasons, he needs to get some rest. He must to consider the events that have transpired within the squad. Whether it’s in Test, One-Day, or even this T20 format, we have witnessed the same Siraj take wickets with the new ball. He has excelled as a bowler for both Team India and the Royal Challengers Bangalore. However, I believe he’s not performing to his full potential. Because he has been playing a lot of cricket, Brian Lara told Star Sports, “He needs rest, both mentally and physically.”

“He has participated in four Test matches against England; prior to that, he was a member of the Indian team in every series the team participated in. He bowls a lot of overs as well. He appears to be emotionally and physically worn out. And it’s hard for any bowler to wake up the next day feeling okay after this kind of hammering.

You have to allow yourself some time to unwind, reflect on your game, work hard in the nets, and improve your game so that you can return stronger than before, as we have seen with Siraj, who I’m sure will do so,” the man continued. “I too went through these circumstances where I got hammered by different batters.”

Tension increases as RCB loses at Wankhede

Cricket commentators have harshly criticized the RCB’s bowling lineup. Captain Faf du Plessis recently instructed the players to strive for 220 runs if they chose to bat first. It is noteworthy that, in their most recent game at Wankhede against MI, the three-time finalists lost despite setting a challenging goal of 197 runs, which was easily reached by the Hardik Pandya-led team with 27 balls remaining.

Having lost five of their six games, RCB is currently ranked second from the bottom of the IPL 2024 points standings. Their lone triumph came at home against the Punjab Kings. Furthermore, in order for RCB to have any chance of making the playoffs, they must win.
