During the IPL 2025 match, CSK players pay homage by donning black armbands.
IPL 2025, Match 38: Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni On Sunday, April 20, during Match 38 of the ongoing IPL 2025 (Indian Premier League) versus the Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) players were spotted wearing black armbands. The franchise has not yet released an official comment.
However, during the post-match presentation, famous anchor Harsha Bhogle disclosed the cause. In remembrance of Devon Conway’s father, Philip Conway, who tragically died at an undisclosed time not long ago, the CSK players donned the armbands. Interestingly, the Kiwi top-order batsman was absent from the just finished game.
Conway’s last game for CSK was against the Kolkata Knight Riders at Chepauk on April 11. In their road game against the Lucknow Super Giants, he did not play for the team. He was sidelined against LSG, but there was no formal explanation from the side. So far this season, Conway has pitched three innings. Interestingly, he scored 69 runs against the Punjab Kings in a defeat.
CSK struggles with the ball despite posting a competitive total.
With 26 deliveries remaining, the visiting Chennai Super Kings lost their match against the Mumbai Indians by a commanding nine-wicket margin. Hardik Pandya won the toss and the Men in Yellow were put in to bat first. CSK scored a respectable total with to half-centuries from Shivam Dube (50 off 32) and Ravindra Jadeja (53* off 35). Mitchell Santner (1/14 in three overs) and Jasprit Bumrah (2/25 in four overs) were the two standouts with the ball.
MI wins handily thanks to Rohit and Suryakumar Yadav.
Ryan Rickelton was the only wicket to be lost in the second innings of the run chase. The wicketkeeper-batter ended when 17-year-old Ayush Mhatre, who had earlier produced a dynamic 32-run knock off only 15 deliveries, caught hold of the ball at the deep midwicket boundary. Suryakumar Yadav (68* off 30) and Rohit Sharma (76* off 45) were perfect in their attempts to surpass CSK’s score that evening.
