When the Indian women’s team played Sri Lanka women in the opening game of the tri-series on Sunday, April 27, they wore black armbands. The group honoured the Pahalgam terror attack victims.
The official BCCI Women’s account took to X to explain why the Indian women’s team players were wearing black armbands during the game.
“The Indian Cricket Team is wearing black armbands today to pay homage to the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack, as a mark of respect for the innocent lives lost and solidarity with the affected families,” the BCCI Women’s account posted on X.

The IPL teams have been doing something similar in recent days, with players donning black armbands during every game in remembrance of the Pahalgam terror attack victims. Actually, on Wednesday, April 23, there were no cheerleaders or pyrotechnics during the SRH vs. MI game.
In the first ODI, Indian women defeated Sri Lankan women with great ease.
When playing the Sri Lankan women’s cricket team, the Indian women’s squad performed admirably. In every aspect of the game, the Indian women were superior to the Sri Lankan women. The Indian bowlers, who bowled first, were spot on right away and allowed the batsmen little to no space to spread their arms.
In just 38.1 overs, the Indian women dismissed the Sri Lankan women to a pitiful score of 147 runs thanks to a strong bowling unit effort. The best bowler was Sneh Rana, who took 3/31 in her eight overs. In their eight and 5.1 overs, Shree Charani and Deepti Sharma, respectively, claimed 2/26 and 2/22.
The Indian hitters, who were chasing a modest 148, attacked the bowlers as if they were not under any pressure. Once again, Smriti Mandhana batted brilliantly, scoring 43 runs (46). At 50*(62), Pratika Rawal maintained her form and remained undefeated. Harleen Deol, on the other hand, helped the Indian women reach the mark with nine wickets and 56 balls left after scoring an undefeated 48*(71).
