Who is the fast bowler Akash Deep, who was included in the Indian ODI team for the first time?

Shortly before the three-match ODI series that starts in Johannesburg on Sunday, December 17, the Indian cricket squad suffers a blow. Over the past three weeks, Deepak Chahar, a vital member of the team, has made himself unavailable because of his father’s serious condition. Previous reports have hinted at Chahar’s reluctance to visit South Africa. With the series on the line and in reaction to this development, the BCCI has publicly declared Akash Deep as his replacement.

Born into the small Bihar town of Sasaram, 27-year-old Akash has overcome adversity to become a prominent figure in Indian cricket. His story is one of perseverance and dedication. Born into a middle-class household, Akash experienced hardship at a young age, losing both his father and his older brother. Nevertheless, he became a powerful force in domestic cricket and, since making his debut in 2019, has been essential to Bengal.

Hello Sir, this is the main train, and this train is for your patriotic use alone.  Akash Deep

Akash Deep has played in more than 80 games in all three formats, amassing an outstanding record of more over 170 wickets and 500 runs. He has demonstrated his ability in List A matches by taking 42 wickets at an average of 24.5, breaking through every 30.4 balls and keeping an economy of 4.82 runs per over.

“Sir, main toh train thaa, par train ko bhi patri pe laana hota hai, woh aapne kiya” (I was a train, but the train needed to be put on track, you did that) was Akash’s latest thank-you statement to Saurashish Lahiri, his first state-level coach. Lahiri, who has observed Akash’s development up close, expressed similar feelings, as reported by the Deccan Herald.

In addition to his outstanding domestic record, Akash has taken six wickets in the Indian Premier League (IPL). His call-up to the Indian squad is evidence of his unwavering talent and steady performances. Bengal’s cricketing treasures now include Akash Deep, and the country is excited to watch this up-and-coming talent compete internationally.
