WPL 2024: The Gujarat Giants' issues worsen when Sneh Rana and Harleen Deol are absent.

The Gujarat Giants, who placed last in the previous season’s points standings, are currently rooted to the bottom of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024. Worse, the physical state of two of their more seasoned players, Sneh Rana and Harleen Deol, has come into question.

On Sunday, March 3, at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, the Gujarat Giants lost to the Delhi Capitals by 25 runs, their fourth straight loss in the competition. Retired cricketer Anjum Chopra told the commentators prior to the game that Harleen was having trouble with her quadriceps and thighs.

The former Indian batter added that Sneh Rana, the vice-captain of Gujarat, was ruled out through sickness.

For the encounter against the Capitals, Tarannum Pathan and veteran Veda Krishnamurthy took their places in the starting lineup. Both of them, though, were unable to have an effect. Tarannum bowled one over and gave up 10 runs, while Veda was dismissed for 12. Tarannum only scored 9 runs at bat.

Gujarat has not yet won in the 2024 World Premier League. They have an awful net run rate (NRR) of -1.804 and will require a major miracle to advance to the postseason.

After defeating the Gujarat Giants, the Delhi Capitals take back the top spot.

Meg Lanning and company overcame GG handily by a margin of 25 runs, earning their third consecutive victory. The team amassed a total of 163/8 in their 20 overs thanks to the renowned captain’s 55 off 41 balls. The cameos from Alice Capsey (27 off-17) and Annabel Sutherland (20 off-12) provided strong support for their captain. With a four-for, Meghna Singh stood out for Gujarat with the ball.

The women of Beth Mooney responded by finishing their 20 overs at 138/8, but were unsuccessful by a margin of 25 runs. Top scorer Ashleigh Gardner finished with a 31-ball 40. With three wickets apiece, Jess Jonassen and Radha Yadav both performed admirably. In addition, Shikha Pandey and Arundhati Reddy each contributed one wicket. With this victory, Delhi overcame the Mumbai Indians to take back the top spot in the table.
