I'm very looking forward to what WPL can produce this year: Meg Lanning

Bengaluru, February 19, 2024: As the Women’s Premier League 2024 draws near, the Delhi Capitals are making feverish preparations to build on their runner-up finish from the previous year.

After her first practice in Bengaluru, Meg Lanning, the captain of the Delhi Capitals, remarked, “It’s nice to get out here, have a little run around.” Everyone has an extremely nice appearance. I’m really excited to see what we can accomplish this year because everyone has made a lot of progress.”

Lanning, a great figure in women’s cricket, guided the Delhi Capitals to an almost flawless first-ever WPL season. They were victorious in the league stage but fell just short of taking home the championship the previous year.

Regarding her favorite memory from the first season, the former captain of Australia replied, “I had a great time last year. It was a lot of fun opening the batting with Shafali, and I’m excited to do it again this year. I believe that we got along well as a group. It was a great bunch to hang out with both on and off the field; we seemed to be able to work well together, so it was enjoyable overall. It will probably be pretty much the same this year.

In November 2023, Lanning, who has played 132 T20I matches and amassed 3405 runs, announced her retirement from international cricket. The 31-year-old hitter discussed life after retirement, saying, “I don’t like the word retirement, but it’s been wonderful to be a little bit quiet, spend time at home, and play a little bit of cricket every now and again.

“I still love playing, and I’ve been looking forward to the WPL. I’m really excited and hopefully can help Delhi win the title this year,” Meg Lanning said.

On Friday, February 23, 2024, at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, the Delhi Capitals will kick off their WPL 2024 campaign against the reigning champion Mumbai Indians.
