After four years in command and led the West Indies in 39 Test matches, including ten victories, Kraigg Brathwaite has resigned as the team’s red-ball captain. His choice was verified by Cricket West Indies (CWI), who said the new skipper would be revealed prior to the next Australia series.
“With his discipline, tenacity, and in-depth knowledge of the game, Craig Brathwaite has been an exceptional leader for our Test team. Cricbuzz cited Miles Bascombe, Director of Cricket, as stating, “Under his leadership, we have witnessed historic moments that will be remembered for years to come. His contributions have been invaluable.”
“We thank Kraigg Brathwaite for his service as captain and look forward to his continued impact as a senior player,” said Miles Bascombe.
Braithwaite will play his 100th Test match in just two games. As the next World Test Championship (WTC) cycle begins in June and July, when the West Indies visit Australia for a Test series, he is expected to attain the milestone. In 2024, the Caribbean team achieved a historic victory over Australia, despite their poor performance in the previous cycle.
Shai Hope becomes the West Indies’ T20I captain.
Shai Hope has taken over as the new captain of the West Indies team in the white-ball format. The Board has acknowledged that they decided to name Hope the new captain following a productive discussion with head coach Darren Sammy.
Given his performance with the 50-over team over the past 18 months, Shai Hope’s appointment represents a positive change for West Indies cricket. Hope uses in-depth match data and player performance insights to influence strategy, combining intuitive decision-making with analytical precision as the squad continues to evolve,” Sammy stated.
“Shai is a strong believer in team performances and his meticulous preparation, coupled with his calm and composed demeanour under pressure, makes him an ideal leader at this stage,” he stated.
The new skipper will be revealed prior to the forthcoming Australia series, according to Cricket West Indies (CWI).
