The second well-known West Indies cricket player to retire from international play in recent memory is Andre Russell. Nicholas Pooran declared his intention to retire from the international circuit in June.
Since 2019, Andre Russell, 37, had only participated in T20Is. At a strike rate of 163.09 and an average of 22, he finished with 1078 runs from 84 T20Is. He took 61 wickets with the ball at an economy rate of 9.31 and an average of 30.59. Russell played 57 ODIs and one Test aside from this.
“Its meaning is beyond words. One of my greatest life accomplishments has been representing the West Indies. I never imagined reaching this level when I was younger, but as you play more and develop a passion for the sport, you become more aware of your potential.
I wanted to make a name in the maroon colours and encourage others, therefore this motivated me to improve,” Andre Russell said in a statement.
“I enjoy performing for the West Indies and performing at home in front of my loved ones because it allows me to show off my skills and give better performances. I want to be a role model for the upcoming generation of cricket players from the Caribbean and end my international career on a positive note,” he continued.
