Beginning on June 25, the West Indies will host Australia in a three-match Test series. The Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados, is the venue for the inaugural match. The National Cricket Stadium in St. George’s, Grenada, will host the second Test match. The third and final game of the series will take place at Kingston, Jamaica’s iconic Sabina Park.
During the Test series, the famous Sir Frank Worrell Trophy will be at stake. In what will be the beginning of a new era of Caribbean leadership, Roston Chase will lead the West Indies, with Jomel Warrican serving as his deputy.
Selections were selected in accordance with the team’s dedication to creating a fearless, execution-driven identity in Test cricket, according to CWI Director of Cricket Miles Bascombe, who also noted that “consistency in batting output” and a “dynamic bowling attack” were crucial components of the overall evaluation.
The administration of the West Indies has examined the strategies used by the top cricket teams in the globe to attain success, according to head coach Daren Sammy. By pinpointing the areas that require work, he said, the goal is to close the gap with the best teams.
“We looked at what the world’s best teams are doing and what we need to do to close the gap. As we look to move the team up the ladder and compete against the best in the world, we have determined a course of action, as well as the players and resources that will provide us with the greatest edge,” Sammy said in a formal CWI statement.
The former captain of the West Indies also discussed the addition of Kevlon Anderson, a gifted young player who has performed well at the top of the order in domestic cricket. The return of their white-ball captain, Shai Hope, was also welcomed by Sammy. Additionally, the former captain is eager to watch Brandon King’s performance on the red-ball circuit.
Shai Hope’s return is welcome given his consistency in white ball cricket, and I’m thrilled to see young prospect Kevlon Anderson join the team after strong seasons in our domestic leagues to help stabilise the top order. The addition of Brandon King fills a position we’ve determined requires extra attention in order to move our squad closer to the top of the rankings,” he continued.
Assuring the Caribbean fans that they will see their preferred team play in a fresh way throughout the series, Sammy asked them to exercise patience.
We want to get off to a great start and turn our home field into a stronghold during this cycle, with the support of our ardent and proud supporters. That is why I am genuinely looking forward to this series. Although the games will be difficult, I have faith in this core group of players, and they are excited to represent the maroon and please our supporters.
