Beau Webster, Australia’s current Test all-rounder, has claimed eight wickets, including two from Travis Head and one from Alex Carey. However, Liam Scott and Ben Manenti led South Australia to their first Sheffield Shield victory in Hobart, making it insufficient for Tasmania.
The defending champions rallied from 88 for 5 to chase down the mark of 217, needing to produce the highest innings of a bowler-dominated game.
One of the heroes was Manenti, a cult favorite who scored an undefeated 49 from No. 8. Additionally, Manenti helped bowl the Tigers out for 184 in Tasmania’s second innings by taking the vital wickets of Brad Hope, Tim Ward, and Beau Webster. To get the visitors out of danger, he and player of the match Scott put on an important 71-run partnership.
South Australia lost two of their first three games of the season and drew the third, leaving them winless. In spite of fierce competition, Australia’s current Test No. 6 Beau Webster excelled with the ball to guarantee he would be able to hold onto his position.
Webster supported it with 3 for 73 in the losing cause after taking 5 for 50 in the opening inning.
His Australian colleagues Alex Carey and Travis Head were two of his victims. Head’s dismal run of form heading into the Ashes continued when he edged Webster to slips on 15 from a searing off-cutter.
His highest score since August, when he hammered a scorching ODI century against South Africa, was 31 in 11 innings.
Despite defeating his Test teammates, Webster was destroyed by Manenti and Scott, who took him out at a rate of almost six runs each over.
Manenti was ecstatic about the victory.
“Over the past few years, we’ve had some success down here. We enjoy going there to play,” he remarked. “I think he rode the game a little bit because the early wicket was difficult.
“We required it. We’ve played some excellent cricket over the past few weeks, but we’ve just lost some patches.
On November 22, South Australia will play their next match against Western Australia at Adelaide Oval.
