Jake Weatherald, a top-order hitter, has talked about how his OCD has motivated him to always improve his skills. Weatherland has been added to Australia’s squad for the opening Test match of the forthcoming Ashes, where Pat Cummins will be replaced by Steven Smith as captain.
Weatherald, who hasn’t made his international debut yet, discussed how some things, like other people’s criticism, are beyond an athlete’s control and they can only suffer. The southpaw talked about how, about five years ago, the constant onslaught of criticism would weigh him down. He also acknowledged that he struggled to manage that sense of emotional stress.
Weatherald has also participated in 98 T20 matches and 51 List-A games.
“There are a lot of failures in sports, a lot of different viewpoints on what happens, and a lot of circumstances that are out of your control. That totally captivated me, and I have OCD when you go through certain things. “I was fixated on improving,” Weatherald said, as cited by Fox Cricket.
However, I was also preoccupied with what other people thought of me. Additionally, it wasn’t a good combination to attempt to be a professional athlete and have fun when you’re already negatively geared. Around 2020, I wasn’t feeling too good about myself. “I was screaming in my head, but I tried to act as cool as possible,” Weatherald continued.
The star batsman has participated in three Sheffield Shield games this season and has scored three half-centuries in six innings for Tasmania, including a career-high 94 against Western Australia.
With 76 games played so far, the 31-year-old has a First-Class average of 37.63. He has amassed 5269 runs, including 13 hundreds and 26 fifties.

On Friday, November 21, the much awaited series between Australia and England is set to begin. Perth Stadium will host the first match of the series. Weatherald might make his debut, possibly in an Ashes match with a lot of pressure.
