In the wake of the Pahalgam terror tragedy, former India captain Sourav Ganguly urged the Indian board to sever all cricketing connections with Pakistan. The former president of the BCCI was questioned about the BCCI’s decision to sever its connection with the PCB. Sourav Ganguly supported it and believed it was important. He demanded that the BCCI take firm action.
According to Sourav Ganguly, instances involving terrorism occur annually and should not be accepted.
“This (severing ties with Pakistan) should be done without a doubt. Tough measures are required. The fact that similar incidents occur annually is no laughing matter. “Terrorism cannot be tolerated,” Sourav Ganguly declared, urging the BCCI to take firm action.
The BCCI and the PCB, as well as the bilateral ties between India and Pakistan, have gradually deteriorated in the twenty-first century. The last bilateral series when India visited Pakistan was in 2007–2008. 2013 was the final bilateral series between India and Pakistan. After the 26/11 assaults in Mumbai, which claimed the lives of innocent citizens, everything changed.
We will no longer engage in bilateral relations with Pakistan: Rajeev Shukla
Following the 2008 season, Pakistani players were barred from the IPL. India recently declined to go on a Champions Trophy tour of Pakistan. The Pahalgam incident happened a few weeks after they relocated. Rajeev Shukla, the vice president of the BCCI, discussed the matter and shared his thoughts.
Shukla affirmed in an interview with Sports Tak that the BCCI would abide by the directives of the Indian government. He stated that India only plays Pakistan in the major tournaments because of the ICC’s involvement and that the government ordered them not to play Pakistan in the bilateral series.
“We condemn it and stand with the victims. We shall follow our government’s instructions. Because of the government’s stance, we don’t play a bilateral series with Pakistan. Furthermore, we shall no longer engage in bilateral relations with Pakistan. However, we participate in the ICC event because of ICC involvement. Rajeev Shukla stated, “ICC is aware of what is happening and they will do it (sic).”
