The return of veteran speedster Kate Cross for the three-match ODI series against India has strengthened the England squad. She missed the last five-match T20I series between the two teams, which India won 3-2, along with Emma Lamb and Alice Davidson-Richards.
In the Twenty20 Internationals, England’s two victories were determined by the final ball. Kate Cross believes that the hosts are hoping to carry over their ability to remain composed under duress and secure close victories into the ODI series.
“Under pressure, we were able to win two very close games and some incredibly important moments. The fact that we might not always win such times is something that is discussed with this group, so they were two really good things,” ESPNcricinfo cited Kate Cross as saying.
England could have won the fifth Twenty20 International much sooner, Kate Cross added. With five wickets remaining and chasing down a goal of 168 runs, the team captained by Tammy Beaumont ultimately prevailed off the final ball.
“There would have been a lot more questions raised if we had been in a strong position to win the Edgbaston game and then eventually lost it. It was fantastic that we won, but we also don’t want to be in those situations. She stated, “We want to try and kill games sooner.”
“Every cricketer that you talk to will be trying to do that, but mistakes are made along the way and pressure is put on you as a cricketer and teams are allowed to bowl well and bat well and take spectacular catches in the deep that change the momentum of the game,” she continued.
Kate Cross urges England to remain composed under duress.
Cross thinks that in the fifth Twenty20 International, England remained composed under duress. According to the 33-year-old, these victories would help them in important tournaments like the World Cups, the Ashes, and the ODI series against India.
We appeared more composed under duress on Saturday, which is a sign of a club that is headed in the right direction. According to Cross, the more composed we can be under pressure, the better we’ll be in crucial situations like World Cups, Ashes series, and a three-match, one-day series versus India.
On Wednesday, July 16, India and England will play their first One-Day International (ODI) in their three-match series at The Rose Bowl.
