Starting on Friday, August 29 at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Pakistan will play Afghanistan and the United Arab Emirates in a tri-series. The Men in Green, led by Salman Ali Agha, will try to gain some momentum before the 2025 Asia Cup begins on September 9.
Salman Ali Agha spoke to the media at a press conference prior to Pakistan and Afghanistan’s opening game in the tri-series.
Muhammad Waseem, the captain of the United Arab Emirates, and Rashid Khan, the captain of Afghanistan, were both in attendance. The Blue Tigers are the second-best squad on the continent after their successful T20 World Cup 2024 campaign, which saw them reach the semi-finals. A reporter asked the talismanic Afghan all-rounder about their preparations for the upcoming assignment.
Salman Ali Agha appeared surprised by the reporter’s inquiry, as seen by a change in his expressions that was followed by a smirk. Fans were able to see this even though it happened really rapidly. On social media, they posted close-up photos of Agha’s changing expression.

Afghanistan has recently performed incredibly well at ICC events. They defeated the former champions in a lopsided match during the round-robin round in Chennai, and they ended the 2023 ODI World Cup with the same number of points as Pakistan. The Men in Green lost to debutants USA and India in the 2024 T20 World Cup, and they were eliminated in the first round. In contrast, Afghanistan advanced to the finals by defeating elite teams like Australia and New Zealand.
Earlier this year, Afghanistan made its Champions Trophy debut. Despite defeating England, they were unable to advance from a difficult group to the semi-finals. However, Pakistan did not win any of the tournament’s games. Over the course of the next few days, the two teams may play each other three times in the tri-series. Regarding the Asia Cup, they have been assigned to several groups.
