A two-month-old video featuring PBKS batter Shashank Singh making a daring prediction during an interview on writer Shubhankar Mishra’s YouTube channel reappeared after the team finished in the top two of the IPL 2025 league table with 19 points from 14 games. Shashank boldly stated that his side, the Punjab Kings, would take the first slot when asked to predict the top four teams.

After defeating the Mumbai Indians (MI) by seven wickets at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, Punjab Kings (PBKS) advanced to the playoffs for the first time since 2014 and have now guaranteed a spot in Qualifier 1.

In the game, Josh Inglis and Priyansh Arya helped PBKS put on a clinical display as they chased 185 in a virtual knockout for the top two. The outcome not only advanced the team to the first qualifier, which they will play on May 29 at their home field in Mullanpur, but it also revived the now-famous podcast tape that went viral on social media. After the game, Shashank Singh talked about the experience with the team’s media staff.

“It seems unreal. In a competition like the IPL, finishing in the top two is difficult. It’s really fulfilling, to be honest,” Shashank Singh remarked.

The right-handed hitter responded that he always had confidence in this team to perform really well under the direction of Ricky Ponting and Shreyas Iyer when questioned if he actually believed in his prediction.

“No. I always had faith. The day I met Ricky Ponting and Shreyas. Whatever was said, I knew it. I spoke with Shreyas, and he asked me to explain the distinction between believing and acting. I just believed earlier. I know now. The finest part is that we clearly displayed this as a team rather than simply as individuals. We formed a WhatsApp group immediately following the auction and discussed our chances of taking home the crown this year. Our first goal was to place in the top two, and we’ve accomplished that,” he continued.
