After a disastrous Border-Gavaskar Trophy loss in Australia, the Indian team lost out on their third consecutive final participation; this tour will also signal the start of a new World Test Championship cycle. Additionally, India will have a somewhat younger team filling important positions, including as captaincy, after losing the seasoned trio of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravichandran Ashwin.
It will soon be confirmed whether Shubman Gill will be named the new Test captain, as some stories have suggested. KL Rahul, Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant, and even Ravindra Jadeja are among the other candidates vying to be the team’s captain, but not necessarily in that order. It’s also expected that names like B Sai Sudharsan and Karun Nair would be on the side.
