In addition to leading the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the 2025 Indian Premier League, Shreyas Iyer has stated that he would want to bat at number three for the team in the forthcoming competition. The champion of the Champions Trophy responded with assurance when discussing batting at this number.
Iyer has had an outstanding couple of years, winning his maiden IPL title as captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and finishing as his team’s top run scorer in the Champions Trophy. During the press conference, which also included PBKS head coach Ricky Ponting, the 30-year-old batter—who will now become the 17th player to captain the team—went into great depth about his hitting position. Iyer has also stated that he is explicit about the position he prefers to play as a hitter. Reunion between Ponting and Shreyas Iyer
Since they were teammates on the Delhi Capitals team from 2019 to 2021, Shreyas Iyer and Ricky Ponting will be collaborating as captain and head coach once more. These were also the first times that Shreyas Iyer led an IPL team.
