Due to commitments to his family, Wasim Akram turns down PCB's offer of the CEO position

During the T20 World Cup 2024, Wasim Akram took a harsh stance against the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) following devastating losses to Pakistan by both India and the United States. The team’s and the board’s lack of clarity had been pointed out by the veteran, who advocated for a change. The former pacer has now allegedly turned down a PCB offer to join the board. The supreme board is looking for a strong person to take the lead in cricket affairs moving forward. Cricket Pakistan reports state that he was asked to take on the role of chairman’s advisor or chief executive officer (CEO).

However, the 58-year-old turned down the position at the Lahore-based PCB in favour of family obligations. By the way, Wasim Akram lives in Karachi and visits Australia quite a bit.

The PCB’s decision was made at a time when Chairman Mohsin Naqvi was facing intense pressure due to accusations regarding his lack of dedication to cricket-related topics. In case you missed it, Naqvi is also the Federal Minister of Interior.

“It’s time to stop! Completed! Make a new Pakistani team by adding new players. Every Pakistani community in the US and abroad is depressed. They were jubilant that we were finally winning (against India), especially against such a formidable foe. After Pakistan’s loss to India, Akram had stated, “But they (the Pakistani team) declared ‘no, we don’t want to win come what may.

PCB contacted Waqar Younis, an Australian, for the same role following Akram’s rejection. According to reports, the former coach of Pakistan expressed interest in taking on the role and consented to go back to Lahore to monitor any updates. The constitution does not currently provide a post for a CEO, however it is possible to modify it.
