After remarks made during the second ODI between Australia and Pakistan at the Adelaide Oval, a hilarious incident occurred off the field that became even more hilarious a short while later. Another co-commentator, James Brayshaw, rhetorically questioned Wasim Akram, who co-anchored a show on an Australian radio broadcasting network with Brad Haddin, on why
the majority of dismissals during the spells of Waqar Younis and Wasim Akram were bowled-outs and LBWs.
During the interval between the first innings’s third and fourth overs, this query was posed. Akram responded with a straight face, which added to the humor of the statement, saying that the two were suspicious of the fielders and that the slip-cordon was the same old excuse for why the ball was never seen when they had a chance.
Three deliveries later, though, Shaheen Afridi dropped a perfect sitter at deep backward square-leg off a hook that Matthew Short had middled. Naseem Shah was left on his haunches when the ball exploded through his hands as he tried to hang onto it using the reverse-cup technique.

According to Akram, the dropped catch may have drastically changed the outcome of the game if the opportunity had been retained. Afridi was unable to evaluate the height of the ball.

Despite what Akram had said, Pakistan did not suffer much from the lost chance. Short was fired shortly after, along with the rest of the Australian team, thanks to the powerful combination of Mohammad Rizwan and Haris Rauf. Together with the wicketkeeper-captain, Rauf was responsible for four of his five dismissals. Rizwan tied the
record of the most catches (6) made by a Pakistani wicketkeeper in an ODI, held by former captain Sarfaraz Ahmed. The Pakistani openers got things off to a fast start, and Australia was unable to match their explosive batting.
